What is a Shopify access token?
Access tokens are very secure. Sharing your token with Warehut doesn’t give us or your shipper control over your store. The token simply allows your shipper to see basic order information, so they know what to pack and where to send the order.
It takes less than 5 minutes to generate your token, and the good news is that you only have to do it once.
How do I generate a Shopify access token?
Log in to your Shopify store.
Click on "Apps" at the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side of the screen, and then on "Apps and sales channel settings" from the dropdown menu (it's the last option).
On the next screen, click on "Develop Apps" in the top right-hand corner, and then click on "Allow custom app development" and then again to confirm your choice.
On the next screen, click “Create an app”. You can call it whatever you want (we recommend "Warehut"). After you’ve selected a name, click on "Configure Admin API scopes".
Select all scopes from the “Admin API access scopes” list. This will take about a minute — there are over 100.
Once you reach the bottom of the scopes list, select the latest “Event version” under “Webhook subscriptions”.
Click on "Save" (top right) then "Install App" (top right, above “Save”).
You have now generated your Shopify access token. At this stage, it will be hidden. Once you click “Reveal token once”, you won’t be able to see it again. This means that as soon as you click “Reveal token once”, you should immediately copy and paste your access token somewhere secure, such as a password manager. Then, when you need to enter your access token in the Warehut app (i.e. during onboarding), you can simply copy it from your password manager and paste it directly into Warehut.
Troubleshooting
- If you run into any problems, reach out to our customer support and we'll do our best to help.
- If you lose your access token before pasting it into the Warehut app, there’s unfortunately nothing we can do — you’ll have to repeat this process from the very beginning to generate a new access token. You can, however, generate an unlimited number of tokens, so don’t worry too much if you lose one.
